iPad doesn’t show actual video size

I have been raising this issue with HUDL fort the past 2 years. The Problem is that the HUDL app is showing the video on the screen in 4:3 aspect ratio, but is really recording the video to 16:9 aspect ratio. It drives me crazy that we can not view live game video on the screen in 16:9, especially when all coach/team video review is 16:9.  I personally like to see exactly what I am recording on the ipad screen.  You can do this on the ipad stock video camera app, but that defeats the purpose of uploading the video while the game is going on.

Basically what I do is attach an IPhone on top of the Ipad that is showing what the video looks like in 16:9 and use it as a view finder for the larger ipad screen.  It does not make sense why this could not be an easy update for the HUDL basketball app.  Maybe if more people bring it up to tech service the simple issue will be resolved.  All that I am asking is that ALL live recorded video that is being shown on the ipad screen match what is going to be shown on the playback team review.

Message to HDUL tech support. Default the app to widescreen 16:9 instead of full screen 4:3 or give users the options to record and view in both.

Very well said. I have called Hudl numerous times to only be told they didn’t know what I was talking about. Also that they never here the concern. I said that’s because most of Hudl’s communications is with head coach on floor coaching. Not doing recording. Only watching later. Head coach just assumes video person messes up so Hudl don’t hear concern. Recently I went to Cincinnati to football convention. Had Oppurtunity to meet with Hudl in person. Showed in person what I was talking about. Only then did Hudl see and realize concern. Also Hudl said they never hear about. I explained why they don’t hear. The head coach is coaching.

I have recorded all of our Varsity (and most JV) hockey games the past two seasons.  I have this same issue when recording in the Hudl App on my iPad Mini 4! My iPhone is fine.  But I don’t like to use my iPhone during games in case someone needs to communicate with me.

I sent a support ticket last February ( with a comparison picture) and no luck.  I replied to that support ticket again and referenced this post.

(Sometimes I have opted to use the  MoviePro app on my iPad.  The aspect ratio is better, you can pause and resume without a ton of clips, export to the library, log into Hudl in the browser and upload. )

I was hoping for a resolution before November of 2019.

hudl acts like they don’t know still what I’m talking about. We also now use iPhone in press box for football. Same issue with iPad. I use iPhone 10 football press box and basketball. So much easier to see what the iPhone is actually filming. My bigger concern is everyone at hudl acts like they never hear about. I go back my original statement. Most hudl communications are with head coaches that don’t know. Even if we tell them. I’ve seen other people tell their coaches and get strange look like we’re nuts. I use iPhone 10 not activated on cellular so people can’t call.

I have called and email a few times since 2017 voicing my concern. I don't understand what would be so complicated to make the Ipad screen view ratio (16:9) be the same as what is being recorded on file, uploaded, and reviewed by the team and coaches.

My attempt with support the past few days - the support person tested it to find out what we all knew and have been reporting for a long time.   A feature request was crated to pass this issue along to the product team.  I'd like to be optimistic, but given how long some of us have been requesting this change, I'm not.
